Town Eyeing Wigan Midfielder Evans
Saturday, 3rd Apr 2021 12:49

TWTD understands Town are eyeing a summer move for Wigan Athletic central midfielder Lee Evans, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Evans, 26, was taken to the DW Stadium by Blues boss Paul Cook on loan from Wolves for the 2017/18 campaign in which the Latics carried off the League One title.

That led to a £750,000 move to Sheffield United, then in the Championship, but after a year with the Blades Evans returned to Wigan on another loan in the summer of 2018 before the switch was made permanent the following January.

Evans had been released by Bristol Rovers as a 15-year-old and joined hometown club Newport County where he broke into the first team when only two years older in 2012.

In January 2013, Wolves paid a reported £200,000 for his services and the four-times-capped Wales international went on to be a member of the side which won the League One title in 2013/14 season.

He featured in the Championship during the following campaign but spent 2015/16 back in League One with Bradford before returning to Wolves for the next season, prior to joining Wigan for his first loan spell.

It’s expected that there will be plenty of ins and outs at Town in the summer with 26 players currently out of contract and as new boss Cook looks to make his mark on the squad.

Thought he looked decent when we played them - saw plenty of the ball.

Think he'd be a decent signing. Really looking forward to seeing what sort of team Cook builds this summer

At least he'd be able to keep the dressing room entertained.

You'd like to think with this crazy year you will see us take our pic of the best league one players because there are some decent players in this league

I think Liam bridcutt is out of contract who's a decent Player and quite a few Portsmouth players who looked quite solid

Even though it doesn't feel like it, Ipswich is a really good set up at this level and cook will attack players

Sounds like a player with more to prove at Championship level. Just what we need, so long as he can create and score goals.

Would be a very good signing at this level and would add some physical presence to our weak midfield. Too many fans on here still living in dream land. If Paul Cook rates him that's good enough for me.

I guess dieselmorris you think we should put in an enquiry for Aguero....

Need some strength in cm. dozzell isn't the type of cm we need In league 1. We need people who will fight to win the ball and who are strong on it not fancy fairy footwork.

From what i've seen of him he is just the type of player we need at this club he gets stuck in has a good positive pass in him and wants to win not just take the money.

Not entirely into his style of humour but could be good for the dressing room ;)

Suspect we will now be linked with every past Paul Cook player...not that I mind, because they'll have more about them than our current players.

not at all timefliesbyinblue just enough investment in the club to have kept us competitive in the championship over the last fourteen years which he has clearly failed to do.i have seen ipswich since i was thirteen years old in 1961 stood in corner of north stand, and i do not post on here for sarcasm from you, i could be rude to you but i like to think i rise above that.if you think evans has invested in our club please post where you think this club has benefited from his ownership. if not -------

Manager recruits player he's been successful with before. Sounds like the last 10 years to me.

A couple of scouts were spotted leaving the London Palladium. We've enough sweaty, agitated, lightweight comedians at the club already ! Whilst we're poor in every department, midfield is where I'm most worried. Powderpuff and brittle. In myth we have some promising ball players, yet ive lost all hope that they'll ever progress from the shoddy level of performance that we witness on a weekly basis. I never thought I'd miss Downes....but I do. Hopefully a player in there with a bit of physical presence might allow Dozzell and Bishop to express themselves. After 5yrs it'd be nice to see them get close to their potential. Waiting patiently.

And so it begins. ITFC linked with every out of contract player, every player from the current managers former clubs. Let's hope PC can get the players in he wants and needs and is not hamstrung by ME.

Couldn't be a better fit, for what we need

Alternatively splash out on a tin of Dulux for the fence - I just can't get my head around people being excited about perhaps getting a cast-off from Wigan or any other pizza little club - we need an owner, manager AND supporters with aspirations, not acceptance of decline.
